Parking
Here are some useful parking details:
Florence has a large restricted traffic area (ZTL, where the apartment is located) corresponding to the city center. In this area, entry is allowed only for residents or those heading to a private paid parking lot. Even in the areas outside the city center where transit is permitted, parking is still paid.
The historic center of Florence is very small. Everything is reachable within about 20 minutes on foot, so for those staying here, the best way is to arrive by train. If driving is your preferred option, you can choose parking by considering cost, convenience, and distance from the apartment.
I’ll describe some options and suggest possible parking lots, but feel free to choose a different one through this link: Parclick Florence Parking https://parclick.it/parcheggio-firenze
Consider my suggestions, but check for any changes upon your arrival (schedules and fees) and book to avoid the risk of not finding parking.
Inside the ZTL area, near the apartment, there are two parking lots. Use these if you want to drive right up to the apartment to unload your luggage and then park.
If you choose one of these two parking lots, your vehicle will pass under the ZTL cameras; your license plate will be photographed and sent to the municipal police for checks and any fines. When you arrive at the garage, your license plate will be communicated to the traffic police, and everything will be okay (and you won’t receive any fines).
A few minutes’ walk from the apartment, you’ll find:
1) Garage/Reception (your car is welcomed and moved to another space, the price is cheaper than a real garage and varies depending on the car model, around €25/€35 per day)
– FLORENCE PARKING – GARAGE FIESOLANA PARKING Via Fiesolana, 17, 50122 Florence FI – Tel. 039 366 571 6947
2) Proper Garage (around €30/€60 per day)
– GARAGE DOWNTOWN Via Fiesolana, 19, 50122 Florence FI – Tel. 039 055 493 9729
Outside the ZTL, there are two municipal parking lots with lower prices (from €16 to €20 per day). If you use this parking, you won’t be able to drive right up to the apartment, but you’ll have to carry your luggage by hand or use a taxi.
3) Walking about 26 minutes (2.1 km) St. Fortezza Fiera http://www.fipark.com/st-fortezza-fiera/
4) Walking about 22 minutes (1.8 km) from Parterre http://www.fipark.com/parterre/
Another alternative, if you arrive by the A1 highway, is to park at Villa Costanza Parking in Scandicci (a neighboring town to Florence). Between the exits of Florence/Scandicci and Florence/Impruneta, you can access the new tollbooth “Villa Costanza” from both the north and south. Here, you can park every day, 24 hours a day. You can leave your car parked for up to a maximum of 30 consecutive days. The parking is very affordable (about €7 per day) and is directly connected to the terminus of the Tramvia Line, which will take you to Santa Maria Novella Station in just 22 minutes, purchasing a ticket on-site for €1.70.
If you choose this option, let me know, and I’ll send you information on how to get from Villa Costanza Parking to the apartment.
